Jaime Eckles welcomed as new Head Coach

Jaime Eckles recently accepted the Head Coaching position of our Serra Eagles Football team. Coach Eckles was a longtime assistant to George Smith at Mckeesport High School. Coach Eckles is a 1973 Serra High Graduate. He brings along with him Ed Mantich, Ivan Hampton, Tom Smith, Bill Starry, and Mike Puskaric as his assistants.
We wish Coach Eckles and his staff good luck as the season quickly approaches.

Eagles' season ends with playoff loss

Our Eagles were defeated by Beth- Center 38- 17 in their first round WPIAL Playoff game. The Eagles were led by QB Robbie Heatherington who connected with Randall Coleman for a TD pass and Kyle Taylor who scored a rushing TD. Dan Servich added a field goal.
Serra ends the season at 7- 3. This was Serra's 4th consecutive trip to the playoffs.
Congrats to our Eagles for a job well done this season!! Thank You and we are proud of you!!

Our Eagles were victorious in a Black Hills Conference game at Chartiers- Houston, winning 28- 7. Serra improved to 6- 1 overall and 4- 1 in Black Hills Conference play. Serra was led by Robbie Heatherington who had 130 yards rushing and 3 TD's on the ground, and over 100 yards passing with 1 TD pass. Neal McFarland had another strong game with 90 yards rushing and 100 recieving yards and a TD.
A key play in the game was Heatheringtons 92 yard TD pass to McFarland. The Serra defense was tough again led by linebackers John Onufer and Josh Moody. Joe Davis helped the cause with a fumble recovery ont he 1 yard line leading to the Eagles 1st TD. The defense has not allowed a point in the past 3 games. Great job guys!!! Keep it up!!

Our Eagles sloshed their way to a 13- 0 victory over Bentworth, in the mud at Eagle Stadium, to cap off a great night of homecoming activities. Serra was led by Neal McFarland who had 108 yards rushing, Kyle Taylor and Rob Heatherington who each contributed a rushing TD. The Serra defense was tough again posting their 2nd consecutive shutout. Serra improved their record to 5 - 1, 3- 1 in conference play and moved into 2nd place in the Black Hills Conference.

As spring is now upon us, the football program is turning its attention to its annual spring fund raiser, the Lift- A – Thon. Past Lift- A – Thons have been a great help to the program, raising money for much needed equipment and materials.

This year, we have our sights set on an even bigger goal which will help our program build on the success of last season.

Please use the enclosed form to track pledges and donations. Money will need to be turned into the coaching staff by June 2. This will allow us to purchase any needed materials before the start of next season.

2007 Championship Hats & Highlight DVD's

The Touchdown Club is currently selling commemorative hats that celebrate the 2007 Championship season. There are two ways to order the hats, one is to order through the site and have it mailed to your home, the cost is $20 and includes shipping and handling, or you can download the order form here and send it to the school. The first round of orders is due January 31, 2008. If you miss the deadline you can still order a hat but the delivery date will be the end of April.

Also, you can order a copy of the 2007 Highlight DVD online. The cost of the DVD is $15 and includes the shipping and handling. If you followed our Eagles throughout the year then this DVD is a must have.

As we transition from a spectacular 2007 football season to one of great hopes for the future, let me first thank Rick Hyde, President of the Touchdown Club, for his time and efforts into making this season’s fund raising a successful one.

Along with our parents spending countless hours raising funds for camp lunches, bus rides, etc, it has been your donations that have supported our efforts to providing our champion football team with everything they needed to compliment their winning season.

We have a tremendous task for next year that needs addressed now. Our football team is in desperate need of replacement uniforms and new equipment and we, the Touchdown Club, would like to provide them. The McKeesport Daily News has named Isaiah Jackson as the Defensive Player of the year and Coach Rich Bowen as the Coach of the year.

We had two players make the Class A AP All-State Teams, Isaiah was a 1st team selection at running back and Chris "Mr. Highlight" Loving made the 2nd team at wide receiver. Coach Bowen was named the Class A coach of the year.

JOHN HAAG, SERRA CATHOLIC
Position: OL/DL, Height: 6-1, Weight: 280. Class: Senior
For an Eagles team led by its offense, the tough play of Haag was very important.
Haag led the way on the offensive line for running back Isaiah Jackson’s 1,431-yard season and was one of the leaders of the Serra defensive unit.

T.J. HEATHERINGTON, SERRA CATHOLIC
Position: QB/DB, Height: 5-9, Weight: 160. Class: Junior
While running back Isaiah Jackson led the offensive charge for the Eagles this year, Heatherington provided a valuable dynamic, which led to the Eagles’ WPIAL title.
Heatherington rushed for 1,009 yards on 115 carries and added an explosive element to the Serra offensive with his 13 touchdowns.

ISAIAH JACKSON, SERRA CATHOLIC
Position: RB/LB, Height: 6-1, Weight: 225.
Class: Senior
Jackson led the way for the Eagles offense in a year when the Eagles would win a much sought after WPIAL championshipand come one win away from a coveted state title.
The senior running back slashed Class-A defenses all season to the tune of 1,431 yards on 167 carries. He also added 20 touchdowns for the Serra offense.

CHRIS LOVING, SERRA CATHOLIC
Position: RB/DB, Height: 5-7, Weight: 150. Class: Senior
Loving was an explosive addition to the Eagles backfield as he gashed opposing defenses in 2007 with 1,401 yards on 127 carries with 23 touchdowns. He also showed his versatility, making 25 catches for 554 yards and seven touchdowns.
On defense, Loving contributed to the Serra championship effort with five interceptions on the season. Loving made arguably the most important interception of the season for the Eagles, when in the PIAA quarterfinal game against North Star he made a pick, which rallied the Eagles to the win.

He was the leading rusher on a Serra team that had three 1,000-yard gainers. Finished with 1,662 yards rushing on 220 carries and 16 TDs. As good as he is on offense, he might be better on defense. Jackson has been the Eagles leading tackler the past three seasons. After strong playoff run is starting to receive some Division I attention.

A speedster who was capable of going the distance on any play, he was the perfect compliment to Isaiah Jackson's power running. Transferred to Serra from East Allegheny during the 2006-07 school year. Loving rushed for 1,393 yards on just 127 carries and caught 23 passes for another 549 yards. Scored 34 touchdowns, including one in PIAA final.

PA Stat Stars Week 16

We had two Eagles make the PA Stat Stars, Isaiah Jackson made it with 14 tackles and Chris "Mr. Highlight" Loving made it with 11 tackles in the PIAA Championship game. Congratulations guys!

Although the end was not what we envisioned you can not deny that this was the greatest season in Serra Catholic Football history. The ultimate goal of winning a PIAA Championship was not accomplished but the way our boys played Friday until the final whistle shows me that they are State Champs! I have never seen a team play with so much heart and desire as this team has throughout the year. They were led by a group of senior players that have seen the worst and continued to believe in themselves, the coaches and each other to rise from the bottom to the top in four years. Congratulations on a Great season! Hold your heads up high!

PA Stat Stars of the Week, Week 14 & 15

For Week 14 we had a couple of players make the PA Stat Stars, TJ Heatherington made the list with his arm instead of his legs. TJ was 12 - 20 for 200 yards and two TD passes against North Star. The other player to make the Stat Stars was Chris "Mr. Highlight" Loving who made it by having 137 yards receiving, having two interceptions and returning one 18 yards for a TD. Mr. Highlight also caught the two TD passes TJ threw. Great job guys!

Week 15 seen us have one player make the Stat Stars and that was Cam Olsen who electrified the Serra crowd and quieted the Kane crowd with his 88 yard kickoff return for a TD. Great Job Cam!

A Step Closer to Hershey!

Whew!! What a quarterfinal game we had tonight, with a tough hard fought 34 -28 win tonight against the North Star Cougars we move on to the State Semifinals next week. Tonight we learned that this team has heart and the will to win. This was the first time all year that we trailed at halftime and at the end of the 3rd quarter. It is also the first time we have given up more than 14 points in a game.

With the score 28 - 14 at the end of the third quarter our defense came up huge with three interceptions that allowed the offense to make the plays to pull this game out. We are all very proud of this team. This is a bunch of kids that have come together in the true sense of being a TEAM, there is no finger pointing when things are going bad like the first half tonight and they are there to help each other up after each play. Tonight our team learned that no matter what the score is they have the talent and heart to fight back and win!

Tonight the Serra Eagles proved they are True Champions! Congratulations to the players and coaches!

I forgot two important players to congratulate for their play in Friday's Championship game. Sorry guys my brain didn't thaw out until tonight.

T.J. Heatherington was named the McDonalds Player of the Game for his gritty performance. T.J. rushed for 75 yds and passed for 92 yds and one TD. Congratulations T.J.!

Robbie Heatherington's key interception in the fourth quarter stopped Springdales last chance of winning the game and for that his interception was named the Highmark Play of the game. Congratulations Robbie!

WPIAL CLASS A CHAMPS!!!

Congratulations to the Eagles on a great hard fought victory yesterday! You guys did a great job and the whole Serra Catholic family is very proud of you guys.

What a game it was, the defense played great again holding Springdale to 75 total yards and keeping the streak of not giving up an offensive touchdown to 20 consecutive quarters. Even though the offensive was held well below it's average they did what they needed to do to win.

Again Congratulations to the players and coaching staff!

Also, on Thursday Isaiah Jackson was named the Post-Gazette Player of the Week for his performance against Monessen and he also was named to the Post-Gazette Fabulous Twenty-Two. Congratulations Isaiah!!

Up next for the Eagles, the quarterfinals of the PIAA State Playoffs. We are playing North Star (9-2) at Yough High School Friday Nov 30 at 7:30pm. Stay tuned for information on tickets.

One more item. I want to congratulate our offense line for being such a force this season. We have three guys with over 1,000 yards rushing which is AWESOME! Isaiah has rushed for 1,433 yds, Chris Loving (Mr. Highlight) 1,196 yds and T.J. Heatherington 1,013 yds. We also have Cam Olsen and Christian Bryan that each have over 500 yds rushing and Neal McFarland with another 200 yds. That has to be close to a state record for yards rushing in a season. We will have to look into that. If it wasn't for the big uglies up front they couldn't have rushed for all those yards. Great Job guys!!

We will be tailgating Friday morning in Lot 2 as close to the stadium as we can get. We will be there between 8:30 and 9:00am. Just look for people in maroon or red. There is a Red-Out in effect for the game. If you are unable to take the day off to come and see it live don't forget to listen on MSA Sports or WPTT-AM 1360. The games are also being televised on FSN Pittsburgh and on FSN Atlantic. There are alumni that will be watching the game in Florida.

All fans with tickets must enter at Gate A at the south end of the field.
Ticket booths open at 9:30 AM. All tickets at gate are $10.
